Blue Buffalo, renowned for its commitment to high-quality pet food, sought an innovative way to launch and promote its new line of fresh pet food products. To achieve this, they aimed to captivate their target audience through paid ads, strategic social media campaigns, and collaborations with prominent online pet food retailers, such as Chewie.com.

The challenge was to create content that was not only engaging but also effectively communicated the quality and benefits of Blue Buffalo’s fresh pet food line.

Solution

Emota, a creative agency based in San Diego, reached out to me to spearhead the animation for a series of stop motion animated videos. This project was designed to be the cornerstone of Blue Buffalo’s promotional campaign. The task was to develop and produce ten commercials, each ranging from 30 to 60 seconds, which would highlight the unique qualities of Blue Buffalo’s fresh pet food in a visually engaging and memorable way.

Process

The creative process began with an in-depth exploration of Blue Buffalo’s brand values, target audience, and the distinctive features of their fresh pet food line. This foundational understanding informed the meticulous crafting of style frame concepts, which served as the visual blueprint for the campaign. These style frames captured the essence of Blue Buffalo’s brand and the fresh, high-quality nature of their pet food.

Following the style frames, detailed storyboards were developed for each of the ten commercials. These storyboards laid out the narrative flow, key visuals, and transitions for the videos, ensuring that each element worked together to tell a cohesive and engaging story. The storyboarding process was critical for visualizing the final outcome and facilitating a smooth transition to the animation phase.

The animation of the commercials was executed using stop motion techniques, a choice that added a charming and tactile quality to the videos, resonating with viewers on an emotional level. This technique required precise planning, creativity, and patience, as each frame was carefully constructed and photographed to create the illusion of movement. The result was a series of captivating and visually stunning commercials that stood out in the crowded digital landscape.
